The Story Between You and MeToday

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Was enjoying the holiday with the family today. Naturally my mum usually seldom cook during the holiday (yes, even house wife also need a break.. mmmkay.). So this morning we went to Foody Goody near KPJ for breakfast. First thing I notice about the place is the expansion of the car park on the land occupied in the middle previously. A good move as KPJ area really needed a lot more parking space then it currently have at the moment. The laksa stall is on holiday though today. So we tried the other food on offer.

If i recall correctly, I tried the kolo mee which was pretty standard. My father tried the kueh chap which he say was nice and my mum, the teochew porridge and some yew cha kueh (the astro singing competition's husband i think.).

We didn't order claypot but I just simply snap only because lazy walk to the kolo mee stall to snap. Met with my aunt and my cousin at the same place. They are tapao-ing their breakfast.

Moving forward to near evening just now. Went to Giant for the first time. Finally got parking. But quite baffling there are even people parking in the middle of the exit path. That's what you call parking like a Boss.

For dinner just now we went to a place recommended by Salt N Pepper blog. I'd go back there just for the nostalgia. New Lee Ming Food Court.

Quite fatty but really nice. Reason we ordered this is because my grandfather used to cook this dish before his passing not so long ago. It is safe to say, my grandfather's cooking still unbeatable.

This dish is call their signature taufu with minced meat (i think). Nicely cooked. They mentioned that the taufu is self made. Interesting.

My mum always cook this dish also at home. Nice to eat. Anything with belacan is mo tak teng.

Now this dish may look like your usual tun-kei soup but the soup itself is laced with cornstarch instead. So it is sticky instead of watery. Really nice and the cornstarch is a winner here. 4 dish with 3 rice = RM 48. I think the soup was RM 18 by itself, and some of the side dish are RM 7. Not cheap, not expensive.

Haven't fiddle with her uncle's camera for few months already. Since dear is going for her trip today, I would make sure she knows how to use it. It is still a fantastic little camera, I would say it is great for general and street photography. Hope to see her photos when she get back on Sunday.

The Story Between You and MeSix is the number

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Just reach the tender year of six, my nephew that is. Sometime children can be a frustrating thing, especially when they lack of discipline. But most of the time, when you hear them talk, you realize how much carefree they could be. It is this kind of carefree-ness that parents should draw as a motive to work harder for a good future. The world should revolve around children, not materialism. We as adult tends to forget that and it is our duty to teach them that love is the only thing that binds us together. Whether it is love for family or God, both can do no wrong.

The Story Between You and MeSpring Deco

Interesting to know that Lea Centre already closed down at the Spring. Now turn into some kind of art gallery. A few shops near the MBO level are either moved to the side or also closed down. Star Buck I think also no more. H.I.P still there, thank God for that! Spring seems like its starting to lose its appeal. Barang terlalu mahal.

The Story Between You and MeFruit King

I think these are from the Batu Kawah farm. Heard my parent say the Santubong was much better. I still don't understand why people like durian so much. I personally cannot stand the smell let alone having a bite at it. But that is just me.

Internet in 1Land is crappy again tonight. I wonder what they gonna say again this time ? The Titanic reemerge from the seas and sunk again which severed the International Link in the process. Not!

The Story Between You and MeSibu Mali

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Went to Sibu for a day working trip. Met Jan at the airport at Kuching and also Sibu. Almost during lunch and again during the drive to the airport... again. Preston seemed much fairer now not to mention a wee bit thinner than last time. Good to see him again. He did ask for invitation but we haven't prepared on that yet.

Always hear people say this is nice after I tried it, I concur that this is the best way to cook a pork leg. Word cannot describe how delicious this is. The only downside is the huge portion will make you full probably until the next day lunch. Someone should bring this and sell it at the next year Kuching Fest and claim the title of hit food of 2012.

Taukeh or not, this guy is a role model to all rich fella. Always humble and always have a great sense of humor. And yes, he is a fellow brotherhood of Christ. Amen.

The Story Between You and MeSmell What You Cooking

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Looks like my dear want to cook a nice Chinese meal for me. Can't wait to try em'. ^_^ or maybe I should pick up some cooking skill. First I need to get over the phobia of oil meets water in a pan.

The Story Between You and MePorridge Delight

Sunday, August 14, 2011

This morning I went to Kenyalang for breakfast with my mum. Saw a fairly new place called Good Day Food Court (i think...) which was recently renovated. We ordered some Teochew Porridge and surprisingly it was very customizable. The porridge is quite cheap too, 2 person with 4 type of combination of filling and 2 bowl of porridge only at RM 5.00. Some place already selling one bowl with little filling at RM 5 a bowl!

The Story Between You and MeMaterial Problem ?

Saturday, August 13, 2011

I don't know about you but it seems to me that Toyota seemed to have a lot of this kind of problem with the head lamp. Although my car is already 4.5 years old ++ but the degradation of the outer layer coating of the head lamp started to peel off roughly 4 months ago. Gradually it became worse. According to my aunt, a lot of her customer also complaint about their toyota headlamp. I was quite relieved to know that I'm not the only one facing such problem but nonetheless a replacement is also on the expensive side. To put even more salt into the injury, my 8 year old Kenari, headlamp still look like new since the day we bought it.

Started roughly 4 months ago.

Started about 1 month ago.

Oh, remember the other day there was a heavy typhoon storm ? Well my neighbor antenna fell down and flew into my house car porch. Initially I thought there were no damage but unfortunately today I saw a huge scratch on the rear lamp. Fairly deep but luckily no puncture hole. Oh well .. what to do. Natural disaster ma.

The Story Between You and Me7 1/2 Offering ?

Saw this setup just now during noon time while I went to fetch my dear from work. Look like a massive offering. Happening near BDC Everise.

The Story Between You and MeStreet Photography

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

The last installment. I had a blast taking photo that day. Hopefully everyone with a camera could at least try this genre of photography somewhere down the line. It's quite fun. Since you would be most likely to be on the move and under the sun always try to keep yourself hydrated. Some sun block would be nice too.

The Story Between You and MeStreet 11mm

Monday, August 8, 2011

This should be the second last installment on the street series from the previous week or so. A bit lazy to switch on the computer when at home nowadays.

I'm pretty sure she heard the clicking shutter sound, as she is voluntarily looking straight at the glass. Lovely.

The fish seller was actually squatting down when I wanted to snap him but he stood up and have whiff of smoke and an anticipated shot turn into something else in just a split of second!

A fully stocked shop, no customer in sight and that sad facial expression. These are the few things that tells a story.

Initially I wanted to have the traffic light in the shot but there was a car that stop in the middle of the zebra crossing prevented it. Kinda interesting that he remain oblivious that I was snapping away right smack in the middle of the T-junction!

A cobbler had a little snooze time while waiting for customer. Regret didn't bring the 50mm as his face would make a very nice portraiture.

The Story Between You and MeTyphoon Wrecking Havoc Yo!

Sunday, August 7, 2011

Wah ... I got ask for rain but I didn't recall asking for a typhoon eh ... The wind was so strong that it blew off my neighbors tv antenna and almost ... i repeat ALMOST ... creamed my car ... sigh ... don't play play with mother nature. Thank God my sis car not around there during that incident .. else sure the front glass already broken to pieces. On question why I took the video ? Well I was hoping to capture some lightning video and waiting for the astro dish to fly away .. mana tahu something else flew to the ground instead.

During the thunderstorm, the power point near the wall also had a few sparks. Odd thing is the new fuse box didn't trip when it suppose to. Dangerous. Lucky nothing was plug there, if got sure Kenny Roger already.

The Story Between You and MeRaining rain

Yes finally it rains lately. The heat is starting to get unbearable. Aircond also scared on often, electric expensive. USA spending cut, we also spending cut.

The Story Between You and MeDessert Paradise

Saturday, August 6, 2011

Temperature have been soaring lately, so what better way to chill than to enjoy some ice cold dessert. I always like going to the dessert shop at 101 but I think they closed down already. Been there quite a few time and always see it closed. So we went to the other one near Jalan Song instead. Directly opposite Chin Daw Methodist Church (across the road facing One Jaya). First time I came here though. Nice place, cozy and really high ceiling.

This block of shop used to be dominated by Starbucks, now another brand is on the rise, Watson. I think previously the shop is occupied by a high end clothing boutique. You can see Chin Daw reflection there.

Itu dia ... muka Taukeh-nioh. She belanja this time. hehe.

Didn't know what I ordered but the thing is friggin huge. Only the dragon fruit and the ice cream plus something they call lemon muse are edible, the rest are just decoration and a huge amount of ice which make out the foundation of the dessert. No wonder my dad mention people nowadays not only like to eat nice food but also nicely decorated food. Fortunately I'm still old school, as long it taste great that is what counts. The dragon fruit is nice, the ice cream too. The lemon muse need a little work, perhaps they can replace it with Guilingao with honey. Speaking of guilingao, I actually wanted to ordered that one but got attracted with the word dragon fruit and ice cream combo.

The Story Between You and Meall walks of life

Thursday, August 4, 2011

Basically this is just a continuity from the previous week's street photographing. I look hard and long at these photo and initially thought about turning them black and white but I'm kinda lazy today. Yes, lazy until double clicking adobe lightroom also bolat. In case you always wonder what an ultra wide angle lens can do, well you basically can capture just about everything into a single frame and you can do it super duper close to your subject.

Fancy some street photography in Kuching ? India Street and the streets around it's vicinity is rich with interesting subject. Places like a wet or fish market is also a good choice.

Recently I read a post somewhere in the vast world of Internet regarding the privacy issue when it comes to street photography. They raised the question of whether is it illegal to photograph people without consent and posting it on the internet? To be brutally honest, as long at the photo is tasteful, I don't see what's the problem. By tasteful I mean photograph of people doing their daily routine and looking good doing it. This exclude those action such a picking nose or ass crack scratching. Humiliating your subject is a big no no.
