Initially thought about the tamron 70-300 vc version but somehow a non vc version would suit the budget better. Now if only I could find a second hand unit somewhere.

The Story Between You and MeThus far ...

Everything still look rather messy up to this point. No door and windows yet. Need to defend the fort tonight with a broom stick while sleeping downstairs. Not to mention needing to fend off hordes of mozzy's attack.

The Story Between You and MeChoices choices

Who would have thought selecting tiles could be such a headache. Coupled with a poor etiquette sales person, it's really just like duck talking to chicken.

The Story Between You and MeCamera Oriented Life Experience

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

First brush with a camera is my definitely my dad's SLR, the Pentax Spotmatic. Interesting enough, I actually dislike holding that chunk of metal when I was still in my adolescence year. I even tried to sabotage that lens by grinding a metal pliers on the lens barrel. The trouble with under develop brain perhaps.

Second camera I ever knew, was the Canon Powershot S40. Ancient by today's standard but oddly enough I didn't feel the love photography even so back then. It wasn't until I saw what my friend could do with that piece of electronic wonder. Until today, if people ever ask why I got into photography, my mmu old pal always come to mind first. A few of his photo came into mind, long shutter exposure of him playing with firework just by making a round full of movement (still brilliant even today) and a somewhat unflattering photo of 2 elephant trying to "do it" in a zoo.

Interestingly enough, the third camera that I ever felt so fond of was the Nikon D100. I'm actually a Nikon fanboy hater. :) Not to be mistaken with a fanboy. Read between the lines, ya. My colleague brought along his D100 to a company's trip to Damai beach gazillion of years ago. It was the first time I ever saw a monopod. I thought it was broken tripod. :) silly silly me.

I had this silly dream of being a reporter because of the fact that I could use expensive camera and lens on daily basis job. Win win isn't it ? Probably the boring part is the report documentation. :) It was during this time, each picture in newspaper, the only thing I notice wasn't the news itself, but all the reporters surrounding it. The EF 17-40mm with a red ring was by far the most popular choice among journalist back then. Not to mention the Canon EOS 20D and the legendary 30D. Back in those days, my paycheck couldn't allow me to afford the 30D or 350D or even the lens to pair it with. I'd eventually settle on a Powershot S3 IS. Until today, I still miss that camera even though it's actually just nearby. hehe.

The Story Between You and Mecamera or the photographer ?

Monday, March 28, 2011

Photographer is more important than the camera. Much like how your subject is more important than the background. I take better photograph with a 400D more than a 50D. Weird isn't it ? but it's very true. I was much happier with a 400D more than my current camera. :)

The Story Between You and MeOld Photos Revisited

Sunday, March 27, 2011

Can't believe it's been already a year plus since that Hanoi trip. I still remember vividly, it was a great place for photography (actually anywhere but your own place is great for photography). Looking back, I'm quite surprised to note that the 55-250mm IS is actually a pretty good lens for street photography with excellent reach. Quite regret a bit selling it off. :) Oh ... this is actually also a 800px test post. hehe.

Note: For some unknown reason, scribefire cannot upload a 800px photo directly into blogger. Had to manually upload from picasaweb. =.="

The Story Between You and MeOn Camera Editing

Saturday, March 26, 2011

Always wondered how people can shoot landscape with so much surreal color straight from the camera instead of fiddling too much on the computer during post processing. I brought along my recently acquired GND filter for some test drive today. Weather wasn't really favorable with grey cast near evening time. The GND filter allow alteration of the scene color straight on camera. Very handy and a must for all landscape lovers. Will write a simple review when I have used it ample amount of times later on. Sometime off note, yesterday there was a Chinese deity procession at hui sing while today there is another procession (Siong Onn Kong Birthday I think ?) in town a few hours ago. We met those group of people around 5 something while we're shooting there just now.

I tried with the blue gnd filter while in the car. Was testing out the 1/10 second shutter theory i read a few days ago at phototuts+ site. Will try the 1/10 second theory tomorrow at a more crowded place perhaps. Even though i was using a blue filter, there are some editing applied on the road. If no filter was used, the sky would have been more blown out. Need to get a ND8 filter piece to allow a much slower shutter in daylight.

nothing mounted in front and the scene was rendered in lightroom. I think i used the sunset presets on this one. The original photo on camera was really dull and devoid of any color due to the poor overcast grey sky.

Even i was surprised with the result from the back of the camera's lcd. No editing needed, the filter manage to paint the sky wonderfully. A orange and black gnd filter is stacked together to create the effects above.

Haha, this one is quite tricky. Look very much edited but actually is not. I'm beginning to really enjoyed using the gnd filter more and more.

again no editing. a 1/10 second shutter theory is applied here.

If you really like landscape shooting like me, a gnd filter is a must buy for your photography kit.
