The Story Between You and MeWe heart kenyalang

Monday, January 31, 2011

We came here roughly 2 to 3 weeks ago (can't really remember, sorry poor memory). Did we ever mention that we heart kenyalang ? Well this is a good time to reiterate that we do heart kenyalang since we're both grew up around this neighborhood. Perhaps the place is one of the many reasons why we get along so well. Chinese New Year is just around the corner, as we usher in the year of the rabbit, many for sure will flock an old shopping place like kenyalang. Many whom have moved away from here, swore by oath that come weekend, kenyalang is the place to be for early morning walk and breakfast, including yours truly.

The kenyalang CNY bazaar usually starts roughly 1 or 2 weeks before CNY and this year was no exception. Started a bit slowly and starting to pickup pace by midweek, 1 week plus before CNY. Even though we didn't manage to buy anything, we thoroughly enjoy walking around the place even though we've been here more than time than we could count!. Time for us to take some break, will be back by the 6th day of CNY maybe. I'm taking a vacation while she will be busy celebrating CNY with her family and friends. :)

standing at the opposite side of the road. 7pm and the places starting to crowd up. Add together the shoppers from Spring, they'd probably need to build flyover for kenyalang now to ease the congestion problem.

Was it hot and stuffy ? hmmm no really. unless you stand static for 10 minute or so.

Slow shutter is the way to do it. :)

traditional tidbits. most people prefer japanese or taiwan tidbits these day, i think.

28 years of my life, this place never ceases to amaze me.

shot from waist down, obviously not sharp due to poor focusing. For that we need 60D LCD capability. Btw, 60D is brilliant camera. so is the new Nikon D7000. Both are great and will serve most people well. I'm not sure why people like to compare brand of camera, it's quite redundant and a time waster.

Biscuit, ada. Bak Kua, also ada. Cicak pun ada juga.

This photo is quite funny actually. Not the photo itself, but the things that happen afterward. Apparently some guy by the name, Ching Muk look bemused as to why I photograph the ground. He had a driver, he must be some vip. Didn't bother to check.

Apart from kit lens which produce decent shot in night shot like this, if you bump up the ISO rating. I'd always chuckle at people who always complaint about noise in their photos. :P

My most satisfied shot of the day, as long it has human element. I'd dig shot like these anytime. :)

Classic pattern shot.

Chinese lantern these year does come in a lot of variety these year. I think my dear's uncle bought those with some kind of leave and flower underneath the lantern. Thank God they didn't make an iphone 4 replica tang lung, that would be ridiculous.

Wow, all our childhood memories came rushing back. Who could forget indulging in these cotton candies ?

One of the better looking tang lung this year.

We've always bought these every year and each year we didn't eat it. Just kept until fungus grown on it.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the
rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world
and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil
comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done
everything, to stand.” - Ephesians 6:12-13

Woke up at 6.40 am daily these days. Starting to feel the benefit of starting early and ending it early too. If i recall correctly, that last time I actually do such routine was back in the primary school days albeit much earlier than that. 2011 is going to be a very busy year. All I can say is, Just Bring It :)

The Story Between You and MeWallet In Front Pocket

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

A tilt shift lens would do this a better justice.

This photo look the part in black and white. The general sharpness and contrast really pop in B + W.

I heard a advice a couple of weeks ago on how we should put our wallet in the front pocket instead at the back. It finally explain why most of my cards ( credit, medical, atm ) and wallet became broken most of the time in under 1 year. So now, new wallet, new way to put it. The new wallet should be quite long lasting this time around. hopefully.

Oh Gosh, i made another spelling mistake on the word "vicinity" again. Too late to change the design as I already uploaded to the photo site. We thought it would a good idea to walk around the city more to check out Kuching city much like a tourist instead of driving around in a car. The ratio of the amount of detail missed by car as oppose to walking is staggering. It's really not nice to shoot a photo in a moving car anyway. Initially there was that fear of getting mug or something, but it quickly disperse as soon as we saw a lot of real tourist walking around the city arm with a camera and a map. A lot of them like to use Canon camera which is nice. hehe. As I've noticed kuching photographers are mostly Nikon users (7 out of 10 shooters, my unscientific observation). Most of the tourist either bring a 18-200mm or a 18-135mm which was an obvious choice in term of versatility and convenience. I so approved of those 2 lenses.

We saw 2 ladies tourist from Taiwan, wearing very fashionable clothing. For them to come here with that kind of dressing seem very out of place, especially when you consider that they are walking around the open air market area. :)

Should you ever get hungry or thirsty, don't forget the delicious sio bee, kolo mee and pau at the Open Air Market. Oh oh oh ... not forgetting the fresh Soya Bean too.

The Story Between You and MeA Common Denominator

There was a mistake in the photo, the correct word is "Chakra". Why does the above concerns me ? I lived by the words in Bible. Eagerly and truthfully. I can't help but to notice that even the essential Christian have a rotten core. Believe me when I say this, it pains me a lot to see how a fellow devotee actually goes about with his duties with a hate ridden heart. Although we so choose to go on with our lives by continuing to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, patience has a limit.

My dear's uncle is a Buddhist. I used to be one too. Technically speaking, I didn't choose side. He chose me. For all the good things I see, all religion are good. It only turns bad when we human assume a post and act based on selfishness masked by the declaration that it was His Will. I see this one too many time, one could only ever wonder, there really is a human without a guilty conscience ? Today, i found out the answer. It was a resounding yes.

I came across Chuck Berry's music while watching a movie call Pulp Fiction some way back in 94. It was brilliant movie, enjoyed a cult status and more importantly it was a Tarantino movie. A lot of things was also different back in 94, I still enjoyed CNY back in those heydays. Not anymore, after the passing of our first generation. I felt CNY has lost a lot of it wonder as each year progresses. In fact it became progressively worse. A lot of meaning was lost in translation of time. Since when the value of an Ang Pow actually means anything ? Oh wait, since Capitalism took over the world. Everything became expensive. That's where comparison started to take over. And the rest they say, is history.

We went to Hopoh today, to check out Lea Centre. A few days ago, I couldn't find a casual shoes that I was looking for. Those within my budget i mean. What's my budget ? Under RM 100 lo. Anyway, it took us 3 tries just to successfully get to Hopoh. Too many people and it was pretty jam. I saw a shoes that fits the bill that I was looking for, unfortunately they didn't have my size. Instead of feeling dejected, I realize something at the end of the day. I wasn't actually looking to buy a shoe, I was just trying join in the crowd and look for the excitement of buying stuff for the sake of buying stuff for cny. Weird but true story.

The Story Between You and MeWhere did all the Lady Bird go ?

Saturday, January 15, 2011

uncle Nelson's water lily

I couldn't remember when was the last time I actually saw a lady bird on the plants and flowers. In fact, I had to dig deep into the ailing memory of mine to had a recollection that when I was just 7, no matter where I look at the playing field, there were lady birds everywhere! Orange and yellow with black dots. One of the few 6 legged and flying critters that I actually not afraid of (very afraid of cockroach, grasshopper, praying mantis ...) Is it extinct here in Kuching ? Or did they migrate somewhere ? Or is it a sign that the world is dying faster than expected ?

I mean look at the recent disaster from 2010 till now. Constant flood, earth quakes and volcano eruptions. The world doesn't belong to us, as far as I'm concerned, we're just borrowing it from our children. If we do not preserve it today, there is no tomorrow. Is that what you really want ?
