My dear is actually a Foochow raised as a Teochew and I'd always find it funny when it comes to our conversation on Teochew's food preference. Namely because Teochew loved to start the day with porridge. Then I added on some other favourite Teochew food from a rap song, namely Gu Chai Kueh (I have no idea what that is, chai kueh yes, but gu chai kueh ?) and also Kiam Chai. It was only recently that I started to savor more on porridge due to the food not being oily. Recently I found 2 nice place to try a good teochew porridge, one being near BDC just beside Ah Leong Kopitiam and another is Ayiko just the block behind One Jaya Mall, beside a Bak Kut Teh shop. Price is a bit on the high side, but the porridge quality is also on the high side. :) We went here right after Church Service last week.
The thing special thing about Ayiko is all the menu serve fish related dishes. Thank God they didn't call it the Fish Shop!
