The Story Between You and MeReflection : Press On

Based on the statement of "All things are created twice" by the great Stephen Covey. Think of it this way, before a house is made, you need blue print. Before you potray a physical vision you need a mental vision first. Before a system is created, you need designs. Hence why all things are created twice. How does one lived their life is pretty much their own choice, but rest assured, in order to go on with one, we need a least a vision, passion and also sacrifice.

Speaking on vision, it could be something along the line of asking yourself, where do you see yourself in 5 years time ? What sort of achievement you would like to obtain when you are 30 years old ? Passion on the other hand, is something like your will to continue with something you believe in. You may not be born with natural talent, but it doesn't mean that you can't become one if you so choose. Practise with relentless application is just one of those ways to show that you believe in your dream. Vision cannot do without passion. You know how to do it, but you also need to have the stomach to pull it through.

Lastly is sacrifice. Passion goes hand in hand with sacrifice. Think of a program bug which is critical. And the clock is already showing 7pm, already 1 hour pass your office hour. With no appreciation, award or even a standard overtime pay, we could just pack our things and walk away. Lived to fight another day eh ? But could we ? My thinking is that its better to fix it and have smooth operation the next day instead of fixing the bug the next day and your users suffers at the same time. I'd always get ridiculed by my colleagues for working too hard. There is nothing wrong to have a strong passion and tendancy to sacrifice oneself. I'm just doing what I believe in.

So that's my reflection on the sermon Press On by Reverend James based on the passage of Hebrews 11:13-22.
